As a manager, attending the 1 day PHCT Appraisal Training Course will give you the power of easy, excellent appraisals which will enable you to boost team performance and become a better manager in the process.
Ineffectual appraisals are worse than no appraisals. It is common for both improperly trained managers and staff to think they are simply a form filling exercise and a waste of time. Worse than that is the fact they lower morale and lead to lower profits.
Paul Hetherington has been helping managers achieve great things from appraisals for over 10 years.
"Appraisals are the embodiment of management. When I teach someone how to perform the perfect appraisal I am teaching them how to manage. It can be the framework of management, providing a structure within which the management role is performed. Not just at appraisal time but throughout the year.
It's about the manager and team member agreeing what needs to be achieved, and how it will be done. A good appraisal doesn't take long, but it is returned to over and over again as progress is being made. It then becomes an essential tool in the day to day running of the organisation."
The Strategic Appraisal
We believe appraisals should be strategic. They are at their most powerful when they link into organisational business planning. Organisational planning is about leaders agreeing the direction and what needs to be achieved. The appraisal system ensures that everyone is pulling in the same direction. We can support you at every stage of the process. If you would like to discuss the PHCT approach with Paul Hetherington, who developed it, please use the PHCT contact us form or Telephone 0845 2692875 (Lines open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm)
Does it Hurt?
We find that when managers who have never done appraisals are told that they will be doing them they are terrified. This is perfectly natural because they immediately imagine massive confrontations with valuable team members walking out and morale collapsing. Resultantly they go into the process making sure that will not happen by avoiding the issues and making the whole procedure a form filling exercise. At least they do if they don't receive top quality appraisal training.
Ordinary Appraisal Training may lead your managers the form filling route which leads to poor productivity. With the PHCT approach the real issues can be addressed quickly, easily, and without confrontation.

Course overview
What is an Appraisal
What is it all about? What do we stand to gain and how does it fit in with the general management of the organisation? Integrating the Appraisal with the with the day to day running of the business is a key element of the PHCT approach. When managers realise how the PHCT approach is actually able to make their day to day job easier they start to get excited about the possibilities.
The empowering appraisal
Have you ever wished your people would show a little more initiative so that you have to spend less time bogged down with little things. If this is so prepare yourself for a little bit of magic.
The system
The system itself is not that important. A good system obviously makes life easier, but It is the execution that really matters. We will show you how the system we generally use works, explain the rationale behind its design, and of course how to use it. We have found that in many cases our clients already have a system which for one reason or another they are unable to change. That doesn't matter because the PHCT Approach can be applied to any system. We offer a consultancy service for customising your appraisal system along with the whole approach to Business Planning and Management. The underpinning rationalle of the PHCT approach is to facilitate better performance in the organisation as a whole.
Preparation
It is essential that the appraisor and appraisee prepare for the meeting. It is important to the manager because the ultimate team performance depends on it. It is important to the the team member because his or her career depends on it. We show you what must and mustn't be done.
The discussion
It needs to take place in the right environment and needs to be a genuine two way constructive conversation in which praise is given where appropriate and issues are dealt with that would otherwise impede performance. We take you step by step through the process and make it easy. Done properly there's no confrontation, there's no bad feeling and both parties leave the meeting feeling enthused.
After the meeting
Brilliant
preparation and a superb discussion are rendered completely pointless if the nescessary post meeting action is not implemented. We show you what you need to do, how you do it, when you do it, and most importantly: how you remember to do it.
